The Prairie Rainbow Company started many years ago when a group of teacher educators on the North Dakota prairie began to think about educating a new generation of teachers.  The key elements were teacher induction, professional development, constructivist learning design, and portfolio assessment.  Since these themes were all important for mathematics education, the development of Math Models  came initially and then was followed by developing professional learning communities among teachers and writing about student learning for teachers.
